We were there on Friday along with thousands of other fans to show Jessica Ennis our support and welcome her home. We took the opportunity to give her one of our 'Yorkshire Gold' bags to commemorate her outstanding performance at London 2012.

Due to the amazing response to the Yorkshire Gold Olympic Bags and T-shirts we will be selling the Medal Table Bags and T-shirt at tonight's event to celebrate Jessica Ennis's success at the London 2012 Olympics.  Available on a first come first served basis, our stall will be located in the Winter Gardens.

Thank you to Sheffield City Council for making this happen.

After the event, you can buy the T-shirts from Doodle Bag of course, or drop into the Sheffield Visitors Centre on Surrey Street, Sheffield Star Shop on York Street or Your Good Mourning in Walkley.

To commemorate a heroic Olympic performance, we have designed and printed the Olympic team standings, with a slight twist. Not only does this show Great Britain's impressive 3rd place, it also celebrates the truly remarkable achievement of our home county, Yorkshire! With a whopping 7 Golds, as a country we would have made 12th place! We hope that everyone is as proud as we are of this monumental accomplishment.

About the petition...

The number of plastic bags handed out to shoppers in the UK in the past year increased to a total of 8 billion! This is the 2nd year running that the number has increased. Each household in the UK uses nearly 300 plastic bags every year. Now think how many that totals to in our lifetimes!

Plastic bags are the ocean's deadliest predator! 200 million tonnes of plastic is produced worldwide and 10% of that ends up in the ocean.When plastic bags get into the ocean they can entangle, suffocate and even kill marine animals. They are the cause of death for 100,000s of marine life every year. If we don't reduce our plastic consumption now within the next 5-10 years lesser known species will be wiped out.

Plastic doesn't biodegrade, it just breaks up into smaller pieces. They small pieces of plastic can contaminate soils, waterways and oceans and even enter the food chain. Toxins can be attracted onto the surface making them harmful.

Not only that, but plastic is, of course, derived from crude oil which is a fossil fuel. We need to conserve this rather than wasting it on billions of plastic bags. We are only causing ourselves more problems by using crude oil on plastic bags as we rush to find renewable alternatives knowing that the oil will soon run out.

We can make a change. We need to. Show the UK Government that the time for change has come.

Julia Gash, MD of Doodle Bag and Bag It Don’t Bin It, has won a business trip to New York - the lucky thing!  

Julia is one of five Yorkshire female business owners taking part in an international trade mission to discover what opportunities are available for entrepreneurs who want to trade in the United States. The venture is sponsored by Santander Bank as part of their Breakthrough programme, which supports fast growing businesses led by forward thinking entrepreneurs.

On the visit, Julia will explore the market potential for her business, will have a programme of specially tailored business introductions and will be introduced to the British Consulate and local UK Trade & Investment representatives.

 

Julia said: “Taking part in an organised trade mission offers fantastic support in establishing contacts and making appointments in a new and unknown environment. We’ve just started doing business with the States and this is the kind of support that can really give businesses like Bag ItDon’t Bin It the boost they need to venture into a new overseas market.  I am very grateful for the support that Santander Bank is providing us and am confident that it will bring in bags of business.”

We were recently paid a visit by 15 very enthusiastic and artistic 6 year olds from a local school.  Armed with white T-shirts, a memory stick and bags of energy, they descended on our eco-print factory and printed their very own T-shirts as well as finding out all about how and why fair trade and sustainable business works and is worthwhile.

We were delighted to receive a Highly Commended Award at the Made In Sheffield Awards 2012.
